Our History
The Society of St. Peter the Apostle was founded by two French women, mother and daughter, Stephanie and Jeanne Bigard.
The Society was established to provide spiritual and monetary assistance for missionary vocations among young people in missionary Churches.
The Society received Papal approval. One of its early beneficiaries was the National Seminary in Sri Lanka, then known as the Papal Seminary.
The National Bursary Fund in Srilanka was initiated and launched by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith who served as the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
The Fund was accepted by the International Secretariat of the Pontifical Society of St. Peter the Apostle in Rome.
The National Bursary Fund was formally approved by the Catholic Bishops' Conference in Sri Lanka during its January plenary meeting.
Our Dream
The Fund was established to generate greater awareness among Sri Lankan Catholics about their responsibility to help in the formation of their own priests through prayer and monetary contributions.
